Why we exist

The Defence Accounts Pensioners Welfare Association came into existence on 27 October 2007. It was formed to look after the welfare of pensioners of the Defence Accounts Department, with a focus on three things: settling pending pension claims, expediting the paperwork behind family pension and medical claims, and offering moral support to brother pensioners going through hard times.

Many of the people DAPWA serves spent their careers keeping the accounts of the defence forces in order. In retirement, the association tries to return that same diligence — following up files, explaining entitlements in plain language, and making sure no pensioner has to navigate the system alone.

What we do

  • Follow up on delayed or disputed pension claims with the concerned offices
  • Help families complete the paperwork for family pension after a pensioner's death
  • Guide members through CGHS and medical claim procedures
  • Hold a general body meeting every month to hear grievances directly
  • Organise health talks and awareness sessions relevant to senior citizens

How we're run

DAPWA is run by an elected Executive Body under the oversight of a Governing Body, with office-bearers serving fixed terms. Elections are held periodically at the general body meeting, and the current executive is serving a two-year term following elections held in 2025.

Founders & Governing Body

Guided by those who built it

DAPWA was founded by a small group of former Defence Accounts officers who saw fellow pensioners struggling alone with claims and paperwork. Their names and the current Governing Body are listed at the office and in the general body minutes; this section is a placeholder pending confirmed names for publication.
